In fact, Loki’s title was the God of Fire, but it seems that he likes lying and playing mischiefs than doing his own job. When he acted as an arrogant trouble maker, he was indeed a pain in the neck for other gods. But when he performed as a cunning magician, he could make fun of them with only a pack of cards. The gods liked him and hated him at the same time.
Technically, Loki was not totally evil back then, or we should say, he didn’t commit evils on purpose. Despite his mischiefs, he had compensated all of his victims and helped the gods with his wisdom.
It’s fine to rate him as “kind”, as he had indeed done a lot of good deeds, but it’s also fine to say that he is “evil”, as he was, without doubt, the reason for the Twilight of the Gods, which even brought him the name “Evil Creature”.
